K-12 School and Home School Programs

Student groups participating in our K – 12 program come from both local and more distant parts of Maine.  Public School groups have come from Bristol, South Bristol, Damariscotta, Waldoboro, Wiscasset, and Fairfield.  Independent groups have included 4-H groups from western Maine as well as many home school groups.  An effort is made to integrate what students are learning in our lessons with individual school curricula and the State of Maine’s education guidelines.

Visiting students participate in a variety of lessons and activities including explorations in the salt marsh, mud flats, rocky inter-tidal, and forest habitats on trail walks.  Their programs regularly include boat trips, plankton studies, food web activities, microscope work with marine invertebrates, and visits to Darling Center research labs, as well as designing and carrying out experiments of their own.  It is always gratifying to see the students' motivation, enthusiasm, and clear indications of learning.

If you would like to bring a group of students to the DMC or if you would like to learn more about our K-12 educational opportunities, please email us at gmf@maine.edu or call 207-563-3146 x 252.
